The park’s quiet 3,934 acres of woods provides a secluded getaway for nature lovers. Lost River is known for its Cranny Crow overlook on top of Big Ridge Mountain, which offers a commanding view of five counties. The park Lost River State Park also has rustic cabins. This is one of the most beautiful, peaceful, places you will ever go. It is in the small town of Mathias, which has a fire station, a market with gas pumps and couple tiny restaurants. The drive there is beautiful and once you turn off onto the street for Lost River you will be in heaven.

Lost River State Park is a state park located in Hardy County, West Virginia near the community of Mathias. The park encompasses 3712 acre managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Despite the name of the park, it does not abut the Lost River; it lies about 2.3 mi west of the river. Lost River State Park is an appealing state park a reasonable drive from I-81 and is worth visiting. It seems to fly under the radar and wasn't too crowded during our visits in the summer. The Lost River State Forest borders Manitoba, Canada, and is known as a good birdwatching location. Best time to visit is March through December. Lost River Campground is a wooded park located near Lost River, West Virginia. It features shaded, full and partial hookup campsites that are big rig friendly. Many of them accommodate slide out RVs. West Virginia, renowned for its state park system, has another hidden gem in the Lost River State Park. The Cranny Crow/Big Ridge hike is a combination of a loop and out/back.
